Emmy award winner Billy Porter has finally confirmed the news that he’ll be joining Sony’s upcoming adaptation of Cinderella.
The ‘Pose’ star will join Camila Cabello who will be leading as the film’s eponymous heroine. Director Kay Cannon who helped in the movie ‘Pitch Perfect’ will direct the movie and The Late Show‘s James Corden will produce it along with Leo Pearlman and Jonathan Kadin.
Porter, recently earned an Emmy for outstanding lead actor for his role on the FX series Pose; becoming the first openly gay actor to win the honor. He has also played roles in Angels in America and Kinky Boots, the latter of which has given him Tony Award in 2013.
The news of Billy’s casting was confirmed on Saturday night at the 20th New Yorker Festival. In a Q&A session with New Yorker’s Rachel Syme, Porter said, ‘I have a couple of movies that I’m working on,” talking about the movie ‘Like a boss‘. He further added, ” I’m gonna be playing the fairy godmother in the new Cinderella movie with Camila Cabello.”
Other upcoming projects of the 50-year-old include the third season of ‘Pose’ and the Paramount comedy ‘Like a Boss’.
The first animated classic Cinderella was released in the year 1950. And a live-action adaption was later made which was released in 2015, in which Lily James played the role of Cinderella with Helena Bonham Carter portraying the Fairy Godmother.
Sony has not yet revealed the other cast of the adaptation and it is set to get released on 21 February 2021.
