An ice sculpture collapsed in a Christmas market in Luxembourg which resulted in the death of a toddler after being hit by a broken shard of the ice sculpture.
The ice sculpture was created by artists at the Place Guillaume II Christmas market. Earlier on Sunday, the witnesses say the sculpture later collapsed and burst into pieces.
One of the witnesses stated that the emergency services arrived immediately and tried to revive the two-year-old boy at the scene.
According to a source, the 2-year-old boy died to his injuries in an ambulance on the way to the hospital on Sunday evening.
Officials stated the Place Guillaume II Christmas market had been closed after the death and that police were investigating how it happened.
The municipal council of the City of Luxembourg stated that all other Christmas markets in the capital and other intended events would be canceled on Monday out of regard for the victim and his family.
Luxembourg’s prime minister, Xavier Bettel, extends his sympathies to the victim’s family.

Local police and the public prosecutor’s office have both requested for any witnesses to come forward with details to help with the investigation.
