It seems like The Walking Dead will be welcoming some of the old characters while some characters are always welcome according to the creators. Showrunner Angela Kang has announced that the doors would be open for Rick Grimes star Andrew Lincoln to return to The Walking Dead.

Kang confirmed that Rick won’t be back on the small screen for the tenth season as well. He was abducted by a suspicious organization and flown away by helicopter after narrowly surviving a bridge explosion in Season 9. He is considered dead by Michonne (Danai Gurira), Daryl (Norman Reedus) and others for more than six years in-universe.
Kang disclosed that they wanted Lincoln to direct something for a while. Although the actor wanted to focus on his acting career for a while. He just didn’t want to drop the news on the creators in the last minute. Kang also hinted that he might be doing a movie lately.

Moreover, Lincoln was all set to make his directorial debut with the tenth season of the show. Although he was forced to drop out over some scheduling conflicts. Despite his busy schedules, Kang said that the door is always open for him and he can come back anytime he wants.
The Walking Dead executive producer Denise Huth is hopeful Lincoln follows former co-star Michael Cudlitz as the latest star-turned-director on the show. Lincoln will be seen in the form of flashbacks and recollections in the tenth season it seems. The creator has said that they are going to be continuing to tell the story of Rick Grimes in these AMC Studios’ original films. So it seems like he is not going anytime soon.
