According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, a man was arrested on Tuesday night for driving under the influence of alcohol as he crashed his Tesla into a Boynton Beach-area home.
35-year-old John William Fishburn was arrested on late Tuesday and released on early Wednesday his own recognizance. The Sheriff’s report stated that he faces charges of DUI and driving with a suspended license.
The accident occurred at around 7:30 pm at a home on Osborne Drive, near South Congress Avenue and Hypoluxo Road. Officials stated that Fishburn crashed his Tesla into a front bedroom, with the vehicle going almost entirely into the home.
The sheriff’s report said that one person in the house was hurried to JFK Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries. A resident of the house said that a woman living in the home was in her room using a computer when the Tesla smashed into the residence, pinning the woman against a wall.
The resident stated that. “It was a very big sound. It was so scary. I was imagining the roof would fall because the whole house shook.”
The resident stated that the home was considered unsafe to stay in, leaving their family of five to live in their relative’s home, and a tenant to seek a temporary home elsewhere.
Investigators responding to the scene said that Fishburn tripped as he tried to stand. The arrest report said that a deputy noticed that Fishburn’s eyes were red and glassy and that his breath had the smell of alcohol.
He reportedly refused to perform a set of roadside tests.
According to the arrest report, Fishburn told investigators that he was the registered owner of the vehicle but was not the driver. He said that he was thrown from the vehicle as a consequence of the crash. However, the sheriff’s report said that witnesses identified him as the driver.
