It seems that there is a lot of speculation about whether or not there will be a sequel to the movie “The Black Widow.” The director, Cate Shortland, said in an interview with Vogue Australia that she would like to. “I think it’s too early for me to say,” says Shortland. “There’s just so much interest in it and I’m trying to focus on my next film at the moment.”
“The Black Widow” starred Australian actress Naomi Watts as Irina Spalko, alongside other Aussie actors such as Richard Roxburgh (playing General Dimitri Starodubov), Sam Neill (as Ludmila Novikova), and Iain Glen (as Mikhail Belov).

Director Cate Shortland says in an interview with Vogue Australia that she wants to direct a sequel based on Irina Spalko from Black Widow’s original novel by Glenn Greyson and James Diggle called Night Watch. In the book, the protagonist is revealed as being a female agent Natasha Romanov.
‘I’m not building a story arc for her [Natasha] over the course of three films, but I would like to explore that character,’ Shortland said about Spalko from Black Widow’s original novel by Glenn Greyson and James Diggle called Night Watch.

Shortland also commented on Natasha Romanov being cast as “the protagonist” in this film saying: ‘The idea is she has been through enough iterations… it feels more interesting if you take it into a different direction.’
Director Cate Shortland will be directing an upcoming Marvel TV show with Notorious director George Clooney attached as co-executive producer. The project was announced back without much detail given other than the title and that the show will be based on a Marvel comic book character.

There is no official announcement yet on any sequels coming out from Marvel.
