In the end, it is revealed that the madman is actually the friends’ friend from college – and he has been playing them all along. While it is unclear if things escalated to the violence shown towards the end of the film, it is clear that all three are deeply affected by the trauma that they endured.

In an interview with Digital Trends, Alex Essoe who plays Jenny in Choose or Die explained how she related to her character’s struggle with mental illness. “That’s what really drew me to Jenny in this movie,” Essoe said. “I have had a lot of struggles with bipolar disorder and depression in my life and it was really important for me to be able to relate to that.”

At its heart, Choose Or Die is a psychological horror film that follows three friends in modern-day New York City who are put into an unusual game – one that will test their sanity and past experiences in life.

Here is the plot of Choose or Die Series discussed:

The plot of the series revolves around three friends (Jenny, Aaron, and Sam) in New York City who are put into an unusual game of psychological terror.  It turns out that the game is being played by their old college friend-turned-psycho-stalker, Nicky. He has created a dark web competition in which he manipulates Jenny, Aaron, and Sam by pitting them against each other to win his favor.

As this is the first season of Choose or Die, we don’t know exactly what Nicky’s full intentions are at this point. However, it appears as if he is certainly obsessed with Jenny – to the point where he takes precautions to have a full psychological study done on her through his assistant.

Why did you choose to write your series in the first person?

It has always felt more real to me when it is written in the first person as if it was a journal or written diary. I have enjoyed writing the series this way so far and I don’t see myself writing any other way anytime soon – if ever.

I have been working on this series for over four years now. If it wasn’t for all of my fans who have supported me so generously, I would never be able to continue writing on this story until the completion

Why do you think zombie fiction is so popular right now?

I believe it has to do with the mood of our current society where people are fearful of what is going on around them. I think that zombie fiction really taps into the collective psyche of today’s society.

Why did you decide to write the series in the first person?

I have tried writing in the third person and from both a male and female point of view, but it always felt more real to me when written in a first-person perspective. It was fun for me as well because I got to experiment with different voice tones – something I have always had a hard time doing when writing seriously.

How did you come up with the idea for the series?

I had been thinking about a horror film idea for a while when I was first approached by Netflix to write this series. It was as if my creative muse was not listening to me because I did not have an immediate idea for the series, but I did know that I wanted it to feature psychological horror, so that’s what inspired me.

Are there any plans to make a movie or TV show based on the books?

I have been speaking with my friend, Nicky J. Harris, who is a talented writer, director and producer. We have discussed the possibility of making a Choose or Die film and we are talking about the idea of having a franchise entering into different genres of horror fiction. I had always loved watching English-language horror films and I knew that it would be fun to write in this language because it allowed me to experiment with different voice tones – something I had difficulty doing in my work when writing seriously.
