What is the meaning of life? What are we here for? These questions have been pondered by philosophers and theologians alike, but it seems that they may finally be answered in a new season of CITY ON A HILL. The third season will cover the years from 1969 to 1973 and focus on the changing world, with President Nixon’s appearance, as well as reflecting on what it means to live in this time period.

RELEASING DATE:
The third season is set to premiere in 2022. The episodes are scheduled for release. It was announced that CITY ON A HILL Season three would premiere in June of next year. The show has been renewed for a fourth season after the recent announcement from Showtime programming president Gary Levine at TCA winter tour where he said, “We’re really happy with what we’re seeing.”
THE STARRING CAST: NEW AND RETURNING MEMBERS:
- The series stars Kevin Bacon, Aldis Hodge, and Jonathan Tucker.
- As the cast of characters evolves there are some new faces in season three including Lili Taylor (who will play a pivotal role as Mayor Fitch’s mother),
- Elizabeth Marvel who portrays Boston’s first female mayor Maureen Walsh,
- Jimmy Tatro will play the role of a young FBI agent named Sean Brenner and Stephen Root as Controller.

THE PLOT:
The plot for season three which is set in 1990 revolves around Mayor Tommy Fitch’s (Kevin Bacon) first campaign to win reelection, his complicated relationship with Maureen Walsh (Elizabeth Marvel) as she runs against him, and their efforts at pulling the city up from its economic troubles through a community-focused, anti-gang initiative called “Boston SURVIVORS”. FILMING:
Filming for the second season of CITY ON A HILL commenced in November 2018.
SEASONS:
CITY ON A HILL SEASON ONE aired in 2019 and had eight episodes. Season two is still airing with ten episodes out so far. Expect season three to have the same number of episodes or more given this show’s popularity so far.
PRODUCTION:
The production of CITY ON A HILL is set to begin in July with filming scheduled for locations including Boston and various other cities throughout Massachusetts. PRODUCTION COMPANY is Showtime Networks LLC.

USA TODAY TV critic Kelly Lawler, wrote that CITY ON A HILL has an intensity and complexity not seen on many other television shows.
EXPECTATIONS:
The series has been praised by critics for its attention to detail in portraying life in Boston during a time when crime was rampant. Critics say that the show is “an exciting and intriguing look into what makes communities work.” CITY ON A HILL performed very well in its first season, with an average of five million viewers per week. Given the show’s success in season one, we can expect CITY ON A HILL SEASON THREE to be just as popular.
RATINGS:
Season one averaged a 0.67 rating among adults aged 18-49 and had an average audience of just over two million viewers. Season two was met with a positive response, averaging a 0.72 rating among adults aged 18-49 and an average audience of just below three million viewers.
