On September 20, 2018, Nell Kalonji announced on Twitter that production for Dear White People season five had begun. The first day of filming took place at the University of Southern California (USC) and other locations around Los Angeles. Filming wrapped up in November after it began on October 15th, 2018.

The show has received many awards including an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture (2018) and four Primetime Emmy Awards nominations for Exceptional Merit of Documentary Filmmaking (2017).

In January 2019, it was announced that the plot for Dear White People season five would revolve around a plot similar to that of The Hunt. This plot will not be based on any real-life events. Kalonji expressed her desire in avoiding social commentary while writing the plotline. She also stated that there would be a plotline that would revolve around Reggie Green (Marque Richardson) and his relationship with Colandrea “Coco” Conners.
Ratings:
The first season of Dear White People was received with rave reviews from critics and viewers alike. There was an earning of 98% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes. The following three seasons have also been praised for their plotlines. It revolves around the African-American college students’ lives at Winchester University.
Expectations:
Dear White People earned a lot of praise during its first two seasons and with good reason too; its witty plotlines are filled with interesting characters that revolve around themes like race, identity, politics, and sexual orientation. That being said, it’s hard to know what plotlines the showrunners have in mind for Dear White People season five until we get closer to May 28th when it premieres on Netflix.

Netflix has yet to release any reviews for Dear White People season five. With the cast and plotlines that we know of, it’s safe to say they’ll be more than satisfied. There is no word on how many episodes will air in Netflix’s fifth installment of this show. You can expect all your favorite characters.
