But one morning while riding on a train into town after visiting family back home, she gets word that an acquaintance died unexpectedly during his trip to Europe- now he won’t get any more trips or adventures out of this lifetime. Plot Summary:

After finishing her three-month internship in Europe, Emily decides to return home. With a new perspective on life and love, she’s ready for another adventure abroad. Does Emily think about what really matters when you only have so many days left on earth? It’s been a great ride so far but now Emily starts to question what she really wants out of life. She spends some time considering her options then finally decides that she’s going back home – even though it means quitting her job in Europe as well as breaking up with the guy she met across the pond.

I’m going back home,” she says to her boyfriend as they sit on a bench in Paris, “even though it means quitting my job and breaking up with you.” It was true; she had been considering this for weeks now but just didn’t know how to break it to him. He looked crushed like someone had ripped out his heart then trampled all over it before tossing whatever remained of his feelings in an overflowing garbage can. But that’s what needed to happen if Emily wanted more from life than daydreams about looking at pictures from trips abroad online while sitting behind a desk all day long. She felt sorry for hurting him but knew he would find somebody better – or maybe even go back overseas.
