Grey’s Anatomy is back for season 18 and there is a lot of new drama in store! One of the biggest changes this year is the addition of Skylar Astin as a series regular. He will be playing Dr. Levi Schmitt, an orthopedic surgeon who starts working at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in the second episode. According to EW, he will be a love interest for one of the main female leads so it is safe to say we will be seeing him around for quite some time.
First and foremost, let’s talk about why this casting is perfect. As we all know, Mer isn’t exactly going anywhere this season, which means Owen (Kevin McKidd) will still have a love interest on the show. Even though Meredith and Nathan (Martin Henderson) are over, there is nothing wrong with wanting them together again (no one understands me).Â
The thing that makes this casting great is that Levi and Meredith have a lot in common as both new doctors who are relatively green around their peers because they aren’t used to working at such a large hospital.

The new interns Alex, Jo, and Leah will be studying and exploring their potential in medicine under the guidance of Cristina, Meredith, and Maggie. Will Meredith and Derek’s relationship survive after his cheating scandal in Season?
Meredith and Derek’s relationship is probably the most stable on the show. They have been together for ages and they were even engaged so I can’t see why it would come to an end. The only thing that could potentially happen is that Derek will leave Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and start his practice with Amelia.
What is going to happen to Amelia’s career now that her husband has passed away?
I believe Amelia will be doing a lot of grieving this season so I am sure she won’t be as active as before. However, once she gets over her loss, I think she might do something unexpected which could surprise us all in the end.
How will Meredith handle the fact that her mother is back in her life?
Meredith has successfully kept her mother, Ellis Grey, away from her life for years now but I believe it is going to be a lot harder now to ignore her. Now that she is involved with the hospital, I think she might have a lot of problems with Meredith and Derek’s relationship as well.
Who will Cristina get close to this season besides Callie and George?
Cristina might try and adjust to living without Burke by getting close with Dr. Levi Schmitt who has joined the hospital this season. He is a good and pleasant person so I think it will be easy for her to connect with him. However, she should always keep in mind that George (T.R Knight) is still in the picture and might find a way to get closer to the youngest Grey sister.
Who will be the new chief of surgery now that Richard Webber is retiring?
I am assuming that Meredith will be the one to take up this role. She is a great surgeon which is why I believe she will succeed in proving her worth.
I think it is highly unlikely to happen but it might still happen in Grey’s Anatomy Season 18. The thing that makes this pairing so attractive is the fact that they have so many things in common. I don’t think they will get closer than that but it’s certainly possible, right?

Will Arizona Robbins return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital?
I am pretty sure that the producers of Grey’s Anatomy will not kill off Arizona for a second time. If anything, I think she will be taking her career even higher by working somewhere much bigger than the hospital. George (T.R Knight) is leaving the show to go on tour and this is one of the best news I have had in a while because of how much he has been suffering this season.
