King Richard is a film that will be put together by HBO and premiered on their network in November 2021. The movie stars Derek Jacobi, Ian McKellen, and Janet McTeer as the titular King Richard. With a runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes, the film follows the life story of King Richard III from his early days to his rise to power before he died at Bosworth Field.

The film is based on William Shakespeare’s play ”Richard III” which chronicles the rise to power and subsequent fall from the grace of King Richard III. Edward III was a prolific writer, and the screenplay is adapted by Edward III from his own play. The film is directed by Dominic Cooke from an adapted screenplay written by Ben Power and stars Rory Kinnear as Richard III.

RELEASING DATE:

King Richard III opens at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on September 13, 2021, and is scheduled to be shown exclusively on HBO from November 19TH, 2021.

The film is being shot in Northern Ireland/Republic of Ireland Production for the show began on Feb. 27, 2019, and was completed by Aug. 31, 2020. Production for the film began in September 2012 with filming taking place at various locations throughout southern England and Wales, including Penshurst Place and Bolsover Castle in Kent; Fotheringhay Castle near Peterborough; The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon; Raglan Castle, Beaumaris Castle, and Caernarfon Castle in Wales.
