Matt Damon is still a Hollywood powerhouse, and his new movie “Stillwater” will be coming out in 2021. The Oscar-winning actor has been working for over two years to bring this film to life with director Jóhannes Haukur Þorsteinsson. It was filmed on location in France, Spain, Germany, and Iceland.

The story follows an American oil-rig roughneck who travels to Marseille because his daughter is in prison for a murder she claims she didn’t commit. Confronted with language barriers, cultural differences, and a complicated legal system he soon builds a new life for himself as he makes it his personal mission to exonerate her.

Plot Synopsis of “Stillwater”

Matt Damon an oil field worker in Stillwater, Oklahoma learns that his estranged daughter while studying for a year in France, has been falsely arrested pending trial and charged with murdering her friend and partner Lina. When Matt learns of her plight, he travels to France and tries to find a way to exonerate her. Struggling with the language barrier, cultural differences, and many things he settles permanently in France.

Who is still at large and did they get away with murder or will justice be served and truth prevail?

Release Date of “Stillwater”

The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on July 8, 2021. It is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on July 30, 2021. It was previously scheduled to be released on November 6, 2020, but it was later pulled from the schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
