The Pirates of the Caribbean series of films has had a major influence on cinema worldwide. Blockbuster movies have been seen by audiences across the globe, and their characters have entered American pop culture vernacular. The latest installment will see Johnny Depp’s character of Captain Jack Sparrow replaced by a new actor yet to be revealed. While some are saddened by the idea of an iconic actor leaving such an iconic role, many feel that this is a positive change for the series, which is becoming stale in recent years. In a report from Deadline, Universal Pictures made it clear that Johnny Depp would not be returning as Captain Jack Sparrow. The actor is set to appear in the upcoming movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which will see him play Jack Sparrow once again. However, that doesn’t mean he’ll continue to be the series’ leading man:  The actor will not reprise his role until a new actor is found to take over from him.

This series will be released sometime in May 2023. Also, the series has 7 installments. A report from Deadline revealed that Depp’s co-star Javier Bardem will take on a new role, as Captain Salazar. Salazar is the latest villain of the series and will be played by Bardem. In a statement released by the actor, he said he felt “very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Johnny on such an amazing project in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” Reportedly, Depp will remain active in other upcoming projects and should return later this year.
