The Garcia family has had an exciting first season on their new reality show, The Garcias. The season finale ended with a cliffhanger as the family faced eviction from their home. Viewers were left wondering what would happen next.

In this interview, the Garcia family discusses their dreams for Season 2 of the show. “We’re just hoping that we keep the viewers interested enough in watching to want to see more of our family on TV,” says Debra Garcia, mother, and grandmother of the family.

“We want everyone to know how much God has blessed us and changed our lives through this opportunity,” says Steve Garcia, a father, and grandfather in the family. “It’s given us a chance to get out of that trailer park where we were living, and now we’re able to have so many people praying for us. It’s just been incredible.”

What inspired you to write the series about Garcia’s family?

The series is inspired by a true story, which happened in Ramos, Texas. The family was all living in a trailer park and had nowhere to go because their trailer had been burned down.  There were two reasons this inspired me to write the series; the first being that there are thousands of families throughout the United States that are just like the Garcias, trying to survive, and the second is because I come from a large family that has many of these problems.

Why did you choose to focus on immigration as a central theme of the series?

Evangelizing throughout the United States, I have encountered many families that face the same problems as the Garcias. Many of them are undocumented immigrants and they live in fear of being caught by immigration. The theme of immigration is a very real problem in America so it seemed appropriate to include this in The Garcias Series.

How has your own personal experience as an immigrant influenced your writing?

My own personal experience as an immigrant has helped me to understand the characters and the issues they face due to their immigration status. It also helps in my research of the characters. In my first book, The Garcias, I highlighted family problems caused by illegal immigration. There are many phenomena that have an impact on U.S. families today such as low wages and lack of access to good housing and schools due to overcrowding in crowded areas.<br>

On a more positive note, I am able to understand how many illegal immigrants want a better life for their children.

What do you hope readers will take away from reading The Garcias Series?

I hope that readers will be touched by the lives of the Garcias and be inspired to work to change the immigration laws in our country so that thousands more families, who are forced to live in fear at this very moment, can have a better life. The series will also inspire parents and grandparents to take a better approach to raise their children and grandchildren.
