In 2013, the video game The Last of Us was released. It was a plot-driven adventure survival horror game that had players follow Joel and Ellie as they try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. In 2014, the plot for an American TV show based on this story was greenlit by HBO. The cast is set to be announced at E3 2016, with production starting soon after that announcement. There’s no word yet on if it will air in 2021 or 2022, but there are high expectations for this show to succeed critically and commercially.
About The Last of Us:
The Last of Us follows Joel and Ellie as they try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Players control both characters, switching between them at any time to use their unique abilities. Joel is more seasoned than Ellie, so he can fight better than her; however, she can sneak up on enemies that Joel would be caught by. The plot for the show has been carefully crafted from scratch, as Naughty Dog (the studio that made The Last of Us) is heavily involved in its creation. Despite this, it will not follow Sarah and John’s storyline from the game – a big departure to keep fans on their toes!

The release date for The Last of Us has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be on screens in 2022.
Production:
HBO is teaming up with Sony to make the series, and it will be produced by Craig Mazin. The production has been going well so far.
Filming:
Filming for The Last of Us started at the end of 2018 and wrapped up in 2021, but after a slight delay due to showrunner.
Revenue:
The production is sure to be a hit among fans, but it remains to be seen how much revenue the show will bring in. Based on previous figures from other shows on HBO, the series should be making around $100 million.

It has already been nominated for several awards just days after its first episode aired – including “Best New TV Series”.
Plot for the Last of Us:
The plot revolves around Joel and Ellie, two survivors struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world that is filled with zombies. The plot for focuses on Joel, a man who is tasked with escorting a young girl named Ellie to a resistance group known as the Fireflies. It follows Joel and Ellie as they journey through post-apocalyptic America to find a cure for an infection that turns humans into zombie-like creatures known as “Clickers”. The plot for the television series is based on events in an American post-apocalyptic society, where a mutated Cordyceps fungus virus has decimated much of humanity.
Expectations:
Fans are expecting a lot from this series – they want to see everything that made the video game great on their screens. It will not disappoint them if done properly. This is why Naughty Dog is heavily involved-the studio does not want a flop on their hands. The expectations for The Last of Us are high, but it’s never a bad thing when you have such a strong fanbase behind your back! It is expected that this series will be viewed by millions within just a few years after its release.

The reviews for this series are already in – and they’re great! The plot is wonderful, the cast does an amazing job (especially Kiele Sanchez who plays protagonist Ellie), there were no plot holes or inconsistencies. People loved it so much that many have even petitioned Netflix to renew the show ASAP-so far, more than 131,000 fans have signed. So far, reviews on The Last of Us have been positive – just like they were with its game counterpart! It has even got some people excited about a sequel to the game.

So far, The Last of Us has been averaging 0.99 out of a possible five stars on IMDb – not bad! The first season has been given an average rating of 78% by critics, and 83% by users – those are very good numbers!
