The Night Manager is a six-part drama series, where the arms dealer Jonathan Pine, portrayed by Tom Hiddleston in the original TV adaptation gets replaced by Indian actor Aditya Roy Kapur.

“The Night Manager” is based on John le Carre’s novel of the same name. It is a spy thriller that tells the story of how an arms dealer unravels a global conspiracy and risks everything in his quest for vengeance. The book was first published in 1993 and was nominated for the Man Booker Prize, as well as winning both the Booker Prize and the George Orwell Prize for fiction.
In the novel, Jonathan Pine is an ex-British soldier who works as the night manager of a hotel in Cairo, Egypt. His life changes when he meets a guest named Richard Onslow Roper who happens to be a British arms dealer. He also has connections with the secret services and he is wanted by foreign agencies because of his illegal activities. When he has a fight with the hotel’s owner, Simon Sheppard, Pine decides to swap identities and goes undercover for him by joining the arms trade.

John le Carre (1931-2015) was an English novelist who, along with George Orwell and Graham Greene, is one of the best-known exponents of the spy novel. The author was born in 1931 in London into a Jewish family and wrote his first book, a short story, at the age of 18. In 1957 he became a staff writer at The Sunday Times and then joined the Saturday Evening Post.
