The Serpent Queen series is one of my favorite series to curl up with. It follows the story of a seer who was banished from her society for something she did not do and the journey she goes on to take back what is hers. The first book brings the reader into an entirely new world, where an ancient civilization has been erased from history by a group of evil sorcerers. Samantha Morton does a fabulous job at creating a truly fascinating world into which to escape to. The Serpent Queen is part of the Outlander series, but it can be read as a stand-alone.
The Serpent Queen is such a captivating read that I was immediately drawn into the story. It begins with Morrigan, daughter of Gaelan, who is given away on the night she is born because she possesses magical powers and would be killed for this reason by her father. The story takes you on an engaging adventure through the lands of Tullamore and beyond, as Morrigan searches for her true power, and tries to right the wrongs she believes were done to her by an ancient group of sorcerers. I found myself wanting to know more about this epic story, and it was not until I had finished that I realized that I had truly immersed myself in the world created.
