The Matrix is one of the most iconic American science fiction action film series. The story is set in a dystopian future, where mankind has been enslaved by intelligent machines that have created a simulated reality called The Matrix. The first three films were written and directed by The Wachowskis and starred Keanu Reeves as Neo, with Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus; Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity; Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith; and Joe Pantoliano as Cypher.

This article chronicles the production of The Untitled Fourth Matrix Film – an upcoming American science fiction action film from The Wachowskis Productions and The Matrix franchise.

Plot Summary of “The Matrix 4”

The film will be a joint production by Village Roadshow Pictures, The Matrix series, and Wachowskis Productions. The cast includes Keanu Reeves as Neo (returning from The Third matrix), Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, and Lambert Wilson as The Architect all returning characters from the previous films in and is seen in The Matrix Revolutions. The production crew includes Lana Wachowski as director, Keanu Reeves as producer and co-writer with Lana Wachowski, and Silver Pictures for distribution in the United States.

The film is scheduled to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures theatrically on December 22nd, 2021 – a date which marks exactly 20 years since The Matrix was first introduced into movie theaters worldwide.

Neo (Keanu Reeves) has been living peacefully outside the matrix following his rebellion against its creators until he is contacted by The Oracle (Gloria Foster), who warns him that Smith (Hugo Weaving) has grown too strong, and The Matrix needs Neo’s help.

Neo agrees to go back into the matrix on one condition: The rebels will be freed from The Matrix at the same time as him. Morpheus’ faith in The One starts fading after he learns about what really happened during his fight with Agent Smith – now calling himself “The Operator” – when they first met 15 years ago.

Morpheus also realizes that everything he thought was real may just be a false reality created within The Matrix itself. In Zion, Commander Lock orders all ships preparing for departure to stand down so he can negotiate with The Operator.
