National Treasure”, starring Nicolas Cage, quickly gained popularity with viewers after its 2004 debut. The Disney action-adventure movie’s success paved the door for its 2007 sequel, “National Treasure: Book of Secrets”. Despite multiple reports predicting the series’ rebirth over the years and the fact that it has been 15 years since the previous movie hit theatres, Disney has yet to officially announce the third installment in the series. Jerry Bruckheimer, the film’s producer, recently provided an encouraging update on “National Treasure 3”. As a result, things might soon change for the better.

Producer Bruckheimer about “National Treasure 3”

Recently, Bruckheimer hinted that a third installment in the National Treasure franchise would be produced soon while promoting the Disney+ spinoff series based on the movies called “National Treasure: Edge of History”.   When we mentioned that we’d like to produce another National Treasure film, they responded, “Sure, let’s put together a fresh cast. National Treasure, which we are still working on, was being developed concurrently for release in theatres with Nicolas Cage. That’s still going on,” Bruckheimer remarked.

A new National Treasure movie is in the early stages of development, according to Bruckheimer, and Cage is expected to return, but it’s unclear when or if that will happen. Given that the first movie ended on a cliffhanger, “National Treasure 3” makes even more sense. In “National Treasure: Book of Secrets”, “Page 47” of the book served as a significant story point.

Production is ready to start shooting “National Treasure 3”

Numerous rumors about the franchise’s resurgence have surfaced throughout the years, but none of them have materialized. According to reports, in 2008, Disney and producer Jon Turteltaub were prepared to begin development on the threequel. The producer had previously stated that the plot was being worked on by the creative team, and that production would start soon. The project, though, came to a halt in the early 2010s. People continued to conjecture about the movie’s outcome for the following few years. Cage went on to say that his declining box office success was why Disney lost interest in the project.

Spinoff series of “National Treasure”

Disney made the decision to move on with a spin-off series rooted in the same universe as National Treasure but starring a different cast while the rumors around the third movie persisted. Recent reviews of the Disney+ launch of the show have been divided. Starring in it are Jake Austin Walker, Jordan Rodrigues, Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, and Antonio Cipriano. The premiere of the program gave the discussion of “National Treasure 3” new life. The show’s creators, Cormac and Marianne Wibberley have also indicated a desire to include Cage in the spin-off.

What is “National Treasure” about?

Nicolas Cage stars as Ben Gates in the movie series. Cage’s character is the main treasure hunter and he has been on the search for some kind of treasure since he was a child. In National Treasure, which took place in Washington D.C., he attempts to prove that his ancestor was part of Thomas Jefferson’s staff by locating a missing treasure map underneath the city. In 2004, when National Treasure hit theaters, many criticized its plot as being far-fetched and far-flung but it still turned out to be one of Disney’s most successful movies for that year.

In the Conclusion

It would be a major revival for the franchise if Bruckheimer could get a third movie made. “National Treasure: Edge of History”, a new Disney+ series in the same world as the original movies, just started streaming. “National Treasure: Book of Secrets”, the final installment in the action-adventure series, came out in 2007. Despite receiving mixed reviews, it was a huge hit, grossing over $450 million at the movie office.
