The third season of John Krasinski’s “Jack Ryan” is back on Amazon Prime Video with an old narrative. We first meet Ryan when he discovers a clandestine Russian plot to attack nearby countries and revive the Soviet empire. Ryan is currently based in Rome. The episodes were written three years before Russia invaded Ukraine, and production was completed before the invasion. The pandemic forced everyone to shut down, delaying the production of “Jack Ryan”. Krasinski shifted his attention to producing Some Good News, a weekly home-produced newscast that featured positive tales in the midst of a gloomy period. He disregarded his diet and exercise routine while he was under quarantine like many other people do.

Story of the series

The series starts when Jack flees from soldiers at the Russian/Estonian border while racing through the bush until getting picked up by a US chopper. In order to inform the captain of the coup and persuade him not to open fire on any potential Russian warships that may be passing by, Jack requests to be dropped onto the USS Roosevelt, a US military ship that is patrolling the Baltic Sea.

Background of the series

The television series adaption of Tom Clancy’s “Jack Ryan” book series was announced by Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland on September 22, 2015. As “a new modern perspective on the character using the novels as raw material,” the potential television series was described. The project was supposed to involve the production companies Paramount Television, Platinum Dunes, and Skydance Media. A week later, it was revealed that streaming site Amazon Video had acquired the rights to the series after a bidding war involving several television networks.
