Who is the Fantastic Four?

The “Fantastic Four” is a fictional superhero team appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. They debuted in The Fantastic Four #1 (Nov. 1961), created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby, who said of the name: “I gave them the Fantastic Four name because I felt it was a catchier name than ‘Four’, and that’s what I wanted—a word that sounded good and also had a nice, strong ring to it.

These fictional characters from the comic book team appear in most Marvel-endorsed media, including animated television programs and films and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2. The Fantastic Four was first published in 1961 as a comic book series. It has been published with 23 titles to date, making it the second-most-published superhero team after the X-Men. The title has been the subject of much controversy, with the foursome being considered comic relief and a failure by some critics.
