In 2012, the chronicle was released to much acclaim. The superhero movie landscape was markedly different back in 2012. The MCU’s Avengers teaming up on the big screen was a fresh, exciting idea at the time, and the world had not yet gotten its first taste of the DCEU.
But while the major studio franchises that dominate the box office were still ramping up somewhat, smaller projects like 20th Century Studios’ Chronicle were on the scene. Now, so many years later (almost 7!), a sequel is in production with an expected release date of 2021! Here are all of our chronicle sequel details, including cast information and plot leaks, as well as what producer John Davis is saying about it.
In a recent interview with Forbes, though, producer John Davis announced that a sequel is already in development. While there’s certainly been more to the Chronicle 2 discussions, Davis explained that a big part of the studio’s decision is the fact that the first film was a huge return on its investment.
“Chronicle we did for $12 million, and it grossed $126.64 million worldwide,” Davis pointed out. “Then it had a huge afterlife in syndication. It’s one of the most financially successful movies in my stable.” Davis went on to say that the studio is looking at a sequel “as an intellectual property as much as we do for any other.”
In terms of chronology, Davis explained that he expected Chronicle Part II would take place about six months after the first movie ends and feature all three original protagonists in their new roles: Andrew Detmer (Dane DeHaan), Matt Garrett (Michael B. Jordan), and Steve Montgomery (Alex Russell). What’s more, there’ll be some form of “superpowers” involved!
John Davis announces Chronicle sequel is already in development -The studio sees it as intellectual property like with any other film-Expected chronology will have taken place around six months after the first movie ends-Original protagonists will all be back and have some form of “superpowers”
According to producer John Davis, the Chronicle sequel is already in development, and we could expect it slated for a release date around six months after the first movie ends. “We are developing [another] Chronicle,” he said at Comic-Con 2018.
It will also feature all three original protagonists from the chronicle Andrew Detmer (Dane DeHaan), Matt Garrett (Michael B Jordan), and Steve Montgomery (Alex Russell).
What’s more, there’ll be some form of “superpowers” involved! The studio sees this as intellectual property like with any other film, so no major changes should be expected.”We’re not trying to do what they did before because that was really good. And if you try too hard just to repeat it, then you’re not doing service to what that was,” Davis said.
Andrew DETMER has developed superhuman abilities after an incident on prom night. Matt GARRETT (his best friend) joins forces with Steve MONTGOMERY, another chronicle person, as they try to help Andy be a hero.
The sequel is still under development. Stay tuned to know more about the details of the cast and release date.
