Cruel Intentions: Sarah Michelle Gellar Is Happy NBC

The Cruel Intentions series was better than the pilot of Cruel Intentions: Valmented. NBC’s Cruel Intentions revival is a step forward for the show. It’s been 18 years since Valmont and Kathryn, played by Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon, pursued their infamous game of seduction with absolute (and often cruel) intentions. The series, which is being revived for a limited run on NBC, looks to have some of that same magic from its days on Fox. The pilot for the new version was a success, too. The remake earned 2.9 million viewers and a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demo.  Those numbers may not seem all that impressive — especially when you compare them to some of this season’s new shows such as ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Station 19 and CBS’ God Friended Me — but they do suggest that people are interested in the Cruel Intentions reboot.

The series revolves around Kathryn Merteuil, a wealthy and influential socialite who has decided to pursue revenge after being betrayed by her friends. She enlists the help of Sebastian Valmont, her cousin, and Sebastian’s twin brother.  Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Kathryn, while Ryan Phillippe is Sebastian. The premiere episode will see them both return to their hometown of New Orleans when Kathryn returns to face the woman who wronged her and other members of their family.

The plot of the series is not to be missed. Cruel Intentions: Valmont and Kathryn are back in New Orleans together and ready to get reacquainted with their past, present, and future enemies, rival,s, and lovers. Kathryn pleads with her estranged twin brothers, Sebastian and Claude, to return home to New Orleans after 15 years away — which they do reluctantly — but they’re in for a shock when they find out their father has passed away.

What can we expect from the Cruel Intentions series?

We can expect the same kind of cruelty that the original had. This makes the series.  In the original, Sebastian and Kathryn have a lot of experiences with each other to watch out for because that is what makes the series interesting. It can be something like a murder mystery or it can be something like an erotic thriller or it can be something involving romance, which is what Cruel Intentions: Valmont and Kathryn will have. 

Who are the director’s favorite characters and why?

The favorite characters of the directors are Kathryn and Sebastian. They also want to add negative characters like Kathryn’s mother and brother because they think that those people will give the series more energy. 

What is your favorite character?

The director liked Jordan Catalano, played by Alexander Ludwig, in the original; however, he doesn’t have a favorite character in the new series.  The director is excited to see the chemistry between Kathryn and Sebastian. The series was a success.

What is the budget for the Cruel Intentions series?

The budget for the series is $10 million.  This budget includes character development, cinematographers, music, and writing.  This cast and crew are involved in this production to make it work because $10 million is a lot of money to spend on a show that doesn’t do well in the ratings. Furthermore, there are discussions that they may order episodes beyond eight because they want to make sure there are enough episodes to decide how it works out after airing so many episodes.

What is the storyline of the Cruel Intentions series?

The storyline is set in the Valmont mansion, which is located in New Orleans, Louisiana. It’s been eighteen years since the Valmonts have been back together.  Kathryn Merteuil is back at the Valmont Mansion to seek revenge against those who betrayed her and her family. She has invited Sebastian Valmont, her cousin, and twin brother, to help her get revenge for what one woman did to her and her family.
