What made you write a series of books about Death on the Nile?
This series has been in my head for some time. Death on the Nile has been a constant presence. It’s been there since the first time I watched Agatha’s movies that depicted this cruise liner, and it was in my head while I wrote The Mysterious Affair at Styles. Then, when I came back around to writing Female Detective and eventually The Legendary Miss Marple, it was back to Death on the Nile.Â
What is your process for writing a book – do you plan everything out in advance?
I create the Death first, then the characters and details of the murder second. The order in which they appear depends on how well I like them. If I don’t like them, they get dumped, and a new character is created that I do like.Â
Euphemia Bouc. She’s not in as many scenes as other characters, but she’s so much fun to write. She thinks she’s fit enough to compete professionally with her husband in the Olympic games even though she hasn’t trained in years due to a severe knee injury.
Do you have any favorite characters in the series, or are they mainly?
I think my absolute favorite characters are The Troubleshooters. They’re a group of three friends that grew up together, and they have each other’s backs 100% of the time. I also love Flora, Euphemia’s sister, a crocheter, and knits well.
Polly’s father is horrid in the first two books; she’s oblivious to it and thinks he’s just being “chivalrous” towards her mother but doesn’t realize he was trying to make his life easier by keeping them both happy. Then she starts to question him when she meets John Crockerwind.

Are there any other projects you’re working on that you can tell us about?
I’m currently working on a novel in the series, which I hope to have finished by September. The characters already live in my head, and they’ve been hard to ignore, but I’m trying my best. Â My love of stories, characters, and a good mystery life. I do love a good mystery, and if it has some romance or a love story, that’s even better. When I thought about writing this book series, though. I kept thinking about Agatha Christie’s books and the movie adaptations she wrote for her novels. Even though she wrote many detective novels, the one that stood out in my mind was Death on the Nile.
