“Dune: The Sisterhood” will be a spin-off from the Denis Villeneuve Dune. Originally announced back in 2019, this year’s Denis Villeneuve-directed film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune is getting a spinoff series with “Dune: The Sisterhood,” a project that is very much still on the menu for HBO Max.
Plot Summary of “Dune: The Sisterhood”
A Sisterhood is a group of powerful mentats who use their intellect to help shape dune on Arrakis. They are trained in advanced logic techniques by Thufir Hawat (Jordan Gavaris), and they act as advisers for House Atreides before being enslaved by Baron Harkonnen during his takeover.
“Dune: The Sisterhood” follows three female mentats- Bene Gesserit Sisters Liet Kynes, Pardot Kynes’s daughter; Margot Fenring; and Mohiam through their adventures around Dune’s world-spanning empire as they become embroiled in power games like those of duke Leto Atreides.

The series will serve as a prequel to the “Dune” film. The film was originally supposed to hit theaters last year, but its release was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. HBO Max ordered the spin-off show straight-to-series in June 2019. Dune movie director Denis Villeneuve is attached to direct the series pilot. Both the series and film are being produced by Legendary.
