What inspired you to write the Gentleman Jack Series?
The series is inspired by the diaries of Anne Lister during her time in Halifax and the places where she went. Sally Wainwright is a huge fan of Anne Lister, and on a trip to Halifax , where Anne Lister was born she stumbled across a documentary about her life. Sally was intrigued by what she learnt and decided that Anne’s diaries would make an interesting series. Once she had pitched, Netflix liked the idea and started development of the series.

The series is expected to be released in the month of April, that is, on 4th April 2019. The series will have a total of 12 episodes. The first season comprised six episodes and it was produced by World Production. .
It was written by Sally Wainwright and directed by David Moore. As stated above, Suranne Jones starred as Anne Lister in the first season. According to sources , Gentleman Jack has an estimated budget of $30 million!
How does the series compare to your other books?

The series explores themes like gender, sexuality and history. Sally Wainwright is an LGBT activist, so she wants to explore the issues that are important to her. She also wants to speak about history, which is why she chose Halifax for the filming of Gentleman Jack . After all, Anne Lister’s diaries are a fascinating insight into this place in the past.

According to Sally Wainwright, readers will enjoy the show because it is an amazing story of a woman who lived on her own terms. She was not bound by society’s norms and this series is about how she broke those.
