The Glass Onion series takes place in a dystopian society where the story follows an individual named Mina who is being held for interrogation. The series revolves around the idea of truth and lies, and how the right to remain silent can lead one down a dangerous path. From its popularity online through social media to its unprecedented streaming success, Glass Onion might be Netflix’s most ambitious project yet. The series is a collaboration between several films and television companies, including Anonymous Content (True Detective, The Knick), and Electus (Broad City, The Carmichael Show). Netflix has not released the source material on which Glass Onion is based. However, the show’s creator, Maria Melnik, has confirmed that it is a fictional re-telling of a true story. She has stated that the story was told to her during the production of her documentary The Black Power Mixtape.

The plot of the series is based on a fictional tale of the interrogation of a female who worked as an activist within the Black Panther Party during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Mina was once a member of the Black Panther Party and fought for Civil Rights. However, she was “captured” for her involvement, and kept in prison for two years before being released. She finds herself living with constant surveillance, night raids, and daily intimidation from those who try to intimidate her into giving up information about her former comrades. Mina’s focus is to reunite with her ex-fiancé Travis – who broke up with her as it would have been too dangerous for them to continue their relationship under the circumstances.

What can we expect from the Glass Onion series?

We can expect the unexpected. This is an adaptation of a true story and the creators have supposedly used extensive archives from the FBI’s Counterintelligence Program commonly known as Cointelpro. The show will be brutal, hard-hitting, and manipulative, not just for entertainment purposes but to give the viewer a better understanding of how politics can be used to divide communities. Due to its nature, international fans will not be able to watch it on Netflix immediately. Glass Onion is being produced by four different companies; Anonymous Content, Electus, Propagate Content, and Entertainment 360 with Anonymous Content having international rights outside of U.S./Canadian rights which are owned by Propagate/Electus who are handling distribution in Canada and the U.S.

Who are the director’s favorite characters and why?

The favorite characters of the two directors are Leslie Odom Jr. and Claire Foy. The show will be a limited series of eight (8) episodes. It will not be a one-off show but would rather be a full series, going into all aspects of the story as it is told in real life and as it is seen through flashbacks and memories from Mina.

What themes does the Glass Onion series explore?

The themes explored in the Glass Onion series may be seen as harrowing, but they are important and hard-hitting. The main character, played by Kate Hudson, is a woman who fought for civil rights in the Black Panther Party with the hope of making a difference while at the same time being able to live life freely with her partner. However, her activities at the party led her to be “captured” by Cointelpro and forced into solitary confinement without any form of legal representation.

What are the critics saying about the Glass Onion series?

The critics are not just saying that this series is good but that it is amazing. However, the main problem with Glass Onion is that Netflix has to carefully use its power to avoid backlash and keep it under wraps. It should be out at a time when people are tired of political drama and real-life stories are just not interesting anymore. So pick a time of year when people do need something new and different, where people can take their minds off other things like the government shutdown could help tremendously in marketing and protecting the show.
