Heartstopper: Who’s Who in the Netflix Teen Series

Netflix’s Heartstopper has taken the internet by storm! The series tells the story of two teenage boys, Nico and Charlie, as they navigate their way through high school and fall in love. With a star-studded cast that includes Nick Robinson (Jurassic World) and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Heartstopper is sure to keep you entertained for hours on end. The crowd-funded series hits Netflix. 

The first episode of Heartstopper is a bit intense for new viewers and could get you hooked if you’re not careful. This opening episode starts out with Nico and Charlie at a drive-in watching their favorite horror movie. In these first few minutes, we get to see the two teenagers as they prepare for the night’s events by getting each other dressed and ready to watch the film.  However, when Charlie gets distracted by his cell phone, Nico drives over an old fence and has his car break down before he manages to get it going again. Nico then runs into some friends that he doesn’t know well enough.

This series will be released on 22 April 2022. Also the series has 25 episodes. The series revolves around the two main characters, Charlie and Nico, who are played by Nick Robinson (Jurassic World) and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things). Carlos PenaVega plays Nico’s older brother, Nico’s best friend in school, Javier Suárez becomes a popular member of the school’s swimming team, Zoey Deutch is a classmate of Charlie’s who is secretly crushing on him. Nestor Carbonell also stars as Nico’s father and Gabriela Castillo portrays Charlie’s mother.

The plot of the series is about two boys who fall in love with each other. A female character named Claire, played by Josie Loren, appears at the end of the first episode. In this series there is a very strong connection between Charlie and Nico’s family. They are all very close to each other and they also want Nico and Charlie to grow up to be parents themselves.  The storyline of Heartstopper Series is almost similar to another Netflix original series Stranger Things. The only difference between the two series is that Heartstopper Series takes place in Florida whereas Stranger Things takes place in Hawkins, Wisconsin, USA.

What inspired the director to write the Heartstopper series?

The series is inspired by the director’s own experience. He has been in love with a woman for about half of his life. As for his story, it is very different from that of Nico and Charlie’s; however, he does share some similarities with them. And so, he decided to write this story to let people know that people like him exist.

Which actor in the series feels more like Nico? 

It is Nick Robinson who feels more like Nico while the other actor Charlie Heaton feels more like Charlie because both of them are gay in real life just as their character too. The director of the series Chaz Thorne said that this is his story too and he wanted to give a platform to likeable people.

What was the director’s inspiration for Charlie & Nico? 

The director Chaz Thorne was inspired by two actors because both of them are gay and they are also good looking. In real life, both Nick Robinson and Charlie Heaton have been in love with someone for a long time but could not establish their relationship because of family pressure. So, these two actors have been so close to him since childhood and he still does not know who his real father is. He felt the same when he saw them on the camera.

How do directors come up with your characters and their storylines?

The director usually comes up with the characters and their storylines when he is writing the script. However, this time the director Chaz Thorne was inspired by a female character so he did not come up with the story himself.

What genre of movie is Heartstopper?

Heartstopper is an adventure-action TV series featuring two protagonists Nico and Charlie. The plot focuses on both of them falling in love with other people after meeting each other. However, both characters’ real love interest do not know about their relationship with each other.
