Netflix’s latest show “Ginny & Georgia” is back for a second season. It has had 180 million hours of views and counting. The second season of Ginny & Georgia is returning after having been on break for almost two years. The binge-watchers were speculating about the third season of the show before it was even announced. There have been no talks between Sarah Lampert, Ginny & Georgia showrunner, and Netflix about a third season.”They are very regimented about how they do things.” They added that there is a strategy in place where they believe in dropping the third season. She further said, “Conversely, Netflix also considers other factors, such as the rate of completion. It has been observed that some shows are canceled after only two seasons if the studio feels that’s what they need to do.”
The story revolves around the self-discovery of Ginny Stiles, a supposedly straight-laced girl who is living with her gay boyfriend, Hank. She meets Georgia, a new girl in town and they become fast friends after they realize they have more in common than they thought. They soon discover that they both have strange secrets about their families and come to realize that everyone has secrets. The story takes an unexpected turn as the girls find themselves in an international intrigue as they move from one mishap to another trying to figure out who is after them and why.
Sarah is a TV writer, director, and producer who also helped create shows such as Boy Meets Girl (2014), HBO’s High Maintenance (2016), and When We Rise (2017). In addition to that, she was a co-writer on the television show 2 Broke Girls. She is openly lesbian herself, the creator of Georgia & Ginny said that she always wanted her character to be openly gay but it never worked out. She did not want her story to be restricted.
The director and producer of the show, Sarah Lampert, got upset about the reaction to the news that Ginny & Georgia is not renewed for a third season. In an interview on her blog, she shared her feelings about the cancellation of Ginny & Georgia saying “the cancellation hurts but it doesn’t surprise me for two reasons. One because it’s Netflix and two because I’ve heard from a lot of people that they don’t think it was very good. And I kind of agree. But that doesn’t stop me from hoping that they’ll bring it back.”
“The New York Times” rated the show 3 out of 5 stars, writing “Ginny & Georgia is not a great sitcom, but it is a pleasant one, and sometimes that’s all you need.” “The Hollywood Reporter,” said that the series has “the right idea with its two upbeat heroines but lacks the needed execution. The show is to be commended for its willingness to take some chances and push its characters into unexpected places from time to time.
