The Joker series is set in an alternate universe where Superman died in the 1990s. In that world, Batman has now been corrupted, and Gotham City suffers from organized crime and poverty. The producers have announced that Brendan Gleeson will join the cast as Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s father. The movie is scheduled to be released in October 2024. When Arthur was 10 years old, his older brother Joseph died of leukemia; which led to both parents quarreling even more until the couple eventually divorced. Five years later, he dropped out of school and became a stand-up comedian at night to support himself, albeit unsuccessfully.
The plot of this movie begins with the death of Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne at the hands of a mugger. The attack on the Waynes left their young son Bruce an orphan, who then grew up to become Batman. In his pursuit to bring justice to Gotham City, he has allowed its criminal element to flourish and created enemies in the process, including a new psychopathic killer called The Joker.
The series is inspired by the DC comics character, The Joker. The Joker is a master criminal who has no superpowers but uses his intelligence and cunning to commit crimes for his amusement. He is considered to be one of the greatest comic book villains of all time. Todd Phillips in an interview with Collider stated that ” there are so many interpretations of [Batman] from the comics to other media, but there have been no films that have been able to crack him, and how good or bad he could be and how funny or scary,”
The favorite characters of Todd Phillips are The Joker, Lex Luthor, and Deadshot. Todd wanted to include the character of Dick Grayson/ Robin as seen in the comics but he couldn’t due to legal issues. He had also considered Deathstroke as a character in The Joker but later discarded it.
The themes include the consequences of violence, chaos, trust, and how the life of an ordinary person can turn into a nightmare. The series will focus on the origin story of The Joker. The film also explores Batman’s struggle with his identity and psychological trauma, which led him to become a vigilante. The focus on the exploration of the character of Batman makes this version much darker than other media interpretations.
The film will be a part of the Crime drama and Comedy genres. The Joker is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. It is intended to be the first film in a series, as well as being produced by Phillips’ production company, Cruel & Unusual Films.
