The next installment of the Mamma Mia! franchise is coming soon. In celebration of this exciting event, we will be exploring plot rumors and cast updates for the film. The plot for Mamma Mia! 3 has not been released yet. Still, it’s expected that it will follow a similar plotline as its predecessors revolving around Sophie trying to find her father while meeting new people along the way and figuring out who she wants to be.
With Meryl Streep reprising her role as Donna Sheridan in all three films (the only person who plays a character across all three), you can bet that there will be plenty of drama coming your way when Mamma Mia! 3 releases soon enough.
ABOUT MAMMA MIA SEASON 3:
Mamma Mia! is a jukebox musical based on the songs of ABBA, conceived and produced by Judy Craymer. It opened at London’s Prince Edward Theatre in 1999 before transferring briefly to Broadway, where it became one of the most successful musicals in history. A film version was released in 2008, this time directed by Phyllida Lloyd and starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Julie Walters, Amanda Seyfried.
RELEASE DATE:
In 2008 the film Mamma Mia! became one of the highest-grossing films in history, with earnings exceeding $600 million worldwide. The sequel to the original London production opened in Melbourne in 2008 and ran for over a year. It has since been staged in North America, Germany, Holland, and Japan. The third part will be on screens from July 2022.
THE STARRING CAST: NEW AND RETURNING CAST:
- In September 2011, Cher was cast as the mother to Meryl Streep’s character Donna;
- Pierce Brosnan had already been cast earlier that month as Donna’s ex-boyfriend. Colin Firth,
- Amanda Seyfried and Julie Walters were set to reprise their roles as Harry Bright (a British writer), Sophie Sheridan (an American TV executive), and her mother respectively from the first film.
THE PLOT:
The plot has been described as “a love story about mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, sisters and brothers a celebration of family values in all their forms.” In the sequel, we follow Sophie Sheridan through pregnancy with her first child while dealing with relationships old and new.
Meryl Streep’s character Donna is a widow of two years and is now a single mother to 17-year-old son Sammie (Josh Dylan). The plot of the sequel to Mamma Mia! will follow Donna (Streep)’s daughter Sophie’s pregnancy and wedding. It has been confirmed that the story will be set in London with flashbacks to Donna’s past.
We also get glimpses into Donna’s past as she had an affair with her daughter Sophie’s father Harry before he left for the United States. Lastly, we see how Sophie has grown up in San Francisco without knowing anything about her mother’s country of origin. When we catch up with the three women, they’re about to reunite at Donna’s house and talk things over before Meryl Streep as Donna comes home for her daughter Sophie’s (Amanda Seyfried)’s wedding.
FILMING :
“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again!” is set for release in July 2022 and will be the first time film has been shot entirely on Ilford PanF Plus 50D black-and-white negative motion picture stock, under director Tom Hooper. The filming location was changed from Kalokairi to a studio in England due to plot changes.
EXPECTATIONS:
The film is expected to be a major blockbuster success, following the trend of many sequels.” Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again!” received mixed reviews from critics. The plot was generally criticized as being too predictable and for not adding anything new to the original story.
