It stars Suliane Brahim, Sofian Khammes, Marie Narbonne and Raphael Romand among others. Plot Summary of “Swarm”

Virginie, a widow, and single mother, lives in rural France with her two children, Laura and Gaston. She has been unsuccessfully raising locusts for protein, much to her disappointment and her daughter’s embarrassment. The family used to raise goats when Virginie’s husband, Nico, was still alive, but locusts are now the focus after his death, alluded to have been by suicide.

Virginie struggles to make ends meet as the locusts are not reproducing at a large enough volume. Virginie’s son, Gaston, has been working in a bakery to make money and soon falls for the owner’s daughter. Laura is also falling for her boss at work when she gets a promotion that forces her to move away from home. The swarm then comes through their village, destroying all of Virginie’s hard work as well as most of their crops and livestock.

Laura ends up following Nadine out west where they can find jobs while Gaston leaves on his own quest across Europe before returning to France with Maxime, who he had met during his travels years ago after Nico dies. They have lunch together in Paris but are interrupted by police officers who arrest them because one of them was carrying weapons; both will potentially have been done in by the swarm.

Virginie has her own farmstead that she runs with her mother Agathe, who was injured during the swarm’s attack on their village, which leads them both to take refuge at an abandoned house up the mountain until it becomes clear how long this swarm will last this time. Laura is a mother of three who needs to find her children and take them all the way from their village in southern France up north, where they are at less risk for swarm attacks. Nadine has traveled with only her daughter (Raphael Romand) out of Paris, looking for safety against the swarm because she lost both parents during the swarm attack on Paris.
