Outlander is a series that was adapted from the bestselling book series of the same name by Diana Gabaldon. It tells the story of Claire Randall and her time-traveling adventures in 18th century Scotland. The show has been well received by both fans and critics alike, with much praise for its plotlines and cinematography. About Outlander:
The show’s main protagonist is Claire Randall, a World War II nurse who happens to be married to her second husband Frank and has two grown-up children from the first marriage.
In 1945 Scotland, she visits with her daughter Brianna and historian Roger Wakefield. While there, Claire goes through some stones that happen to take them back to 17th century Scotland. There she meets Jamie Fraser and becomes entangled in the Jacobite risings of that time period as well as a budding passionate romance with him.

Release Date:
The release date for the sixth season of Outlander has not been confirmed yet, but it is expected to be on screens in 2022.
Production:
There was much discussion when production began on Outlander season six that it would involve time travel to Paris, but this plot idea has been abandoned for whatever reason.
Instead, we know from what executive producer Maril Davis said during a podcast interview that the plot would involve Claire and Jamie finding their way back to each other. Davis also confirmed some production information, including the fact Outlander season six will be shot on location in Scotland as well as South Africa, which suggests we may not see Paris after all.
Revenue:
According to one website, Outlander is the second most expensive show in television history. The massive cost of making the series means that production company Starz must have some faith in it continuing to make money for them for a long time yet. That has been proved by their decision to order season six before seeing how audiences react when they view all 16 episodes together.
Renewal Status:
The series has been renewed for a sixth season, and fans are hoping that the plot will be more compelling. The show is expected to return sometime in 2023.
The Plot:
Outlander is based on Diana Gabaldon’s novels, and it’s obvious to see the show follows them closely. We know from Gabaldon that Outlander season six will cover her sixth novel, The Fiery Cross, but plot details are unknown so far since production has only recently started.
In Outlander season six, plot details are scarce, but we know from several sources, including this recent interview with Sam Heughan, who stars as Jamie, that it will be set in the 1940s and will feature Brianna (Sophie Skelton), who is now a grown woman.

Ratings:
In 2018, Outlander season five averaged a 0.13 rating in the 18-49 demographic and reached an average of just under one million viewers per episode, according to Nielsen rating data. The ratings for Outlander season five have been good, with the premiere episode garnering three million viewers in the US. The show has averaged about eight million per week, which is impressive considering there are only eight episodes this year compared to 13 last time around.
Reviews:
The show has received good reviews, with an average of 87 percent based on 22 critics to date. Review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes lists the series as holding a “certified fresh” approval rating of 83% (95 out of 119). The plot of Outlander season five was not as compelling or interesting to viewers. The show has been losing steam over the past few seasons, and this is evident in the viewership numbers, which have been dropping each year since it first premiered back in 2014.
