ABOUT QUEEN SUGAR SEASON 6:

Queen Sugar is an American drama television series created by Ava DuVernay, Oprah Winfrey, and Selma director John-Henry Butterworth. The show revolves around the lives of three sisters – Nova (Rutina Wesley), Charley Bordelon Jennings (Khandi Alexander), and Ralph Angel Batiste Jr. (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) – who live and work together on their family’s sugarcane farm in Saint Josephine Parish, Louisiana.

The PLOT for Season Six:

Aiken has become the US Attorney General, which puts Nova under a lot of pressure to enforce his agenda. The sisters also have new romantic interests this season. The Bordelon family is back and ready to explore a whole new world of heartache, triumphs, betrayal, and redemption. Charley (Rutina Wesley), Nova (Danai Gurira), and Ralph Angel’s (Kofi Siriboe) lives are upended when they must confront their past to build their future.

Anika (India Ennenga) and Ralph Angel’s relationship is tested as they both try to figure out what it means to be a mother. Charley has an opportunity for the first time in her life, but she must decide if this new chapter will mean leaving behind Nova once again. As always, there are PLENTY of surprises in store for the Bordelon family. Season six picks up where season five left off. Nova and Ralph Angel are forced to confront their past as they try to build a future together.

FILMING:

The series is filmed in New Orleans, Louisiana, on location and at Edinburgh Studios. It’s one of the few shows shot within the city limits. In addition to being an excellent showcase for a segment of American culture that has often been misrepresented or overlooked by mainstream media, “Queen Sugar” was lauded as “a riveting, beautifully written and acted drama that is a part family saga, part social commentary.”
