Why is it called Racoon City?
Resident Evil is set in the city of Racoon which was renamed Raccoon City for the Resident Evil game franchise. The name Racoon City was inspired by the animal, raccoons. In Japan, where the games are made, all of the major cities have a major city in the U.S. with the same name, such as New York City and Raccoon City. Resident Evil takes place near Raccoon City which is why it gets its title from that town instead of another big city like New York or Chicago.
