Rebecca Hall shines in Resurrection, a thriller that is hampered by its misfiring plot.  Hall plays Dr Louise Banks, a linguist who is called upon by the military to help translate messages from an alien spacecraft. When the world is attacked by extraterrestrials, her skills are put to the test as she tries to prevent an all-out war. The film has some strong moments but ultimately falls short of its potential. The film has some strong performances, especially from Hall. She is the emotional core of the film, and Hall has tangible chemistry with her co-star. Unfortunately, the plot simply does not hold up.

The first alien attack is never fully explained, leaving viewers confused rather than excited by the incredible premise. Nonetheless, Resurrection is a fairly polished diamond in the rough that deserves credit for looking at an out-of-this-world subject matter from a grounded perspective. The cinematography is beautiful and helps set a contemplative tone to the film that works to its advantage. The soundtrack is also very well done and adds to the gripping atmosphere of sometimes frightening, sometimes haunting scenes.

Here is the plot of Resurrection is discussed:

The film has a very ambitious premise that should have been executed better. The world is attacked by the aliens and Louise arrives to help the military fight back. The aliens are described as “proto-humans” that are a billion years ahead of us and can be reasoned with if we show them kindness.

Of course, this negates any chance of violence in the film, which is what I wanted to see. I would rather have had an extraterrestrial attack on earth with more motivation than these beings just being curious creatures. Also, I would have liked more reason for why Louise was called upon to do this job.

What does the resurrection mean for Christians and non-Christians alike?

The resurrection of Jesus Christ means so much to those who believe in it, but this movie is not about the fact that the dead can be resurrected. This movie is just a film with an interesting plot and interesting characters. It’s just a film based on imagination and action, it doesn’t have any deep meaning at all.

So, it won’t change your life at all. But if you haven’t watched it yet and you believe in Jesus Christ, then this movie will let you have a fresh breath. Because if we’re going to live with God, we have to understand what happened on the cross. That God was justified in sending His only Son to die on the cross for us humans. We should always remember that our sin separated us from God and that Jesus’ death had paid for all our sins. But now, He wants us to be together with Him forever.

How do we know that Jesus actually rose from the dead?

Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Do you believe in Him? It happened 2,000 years ago but somehow it has been recorded for us to see and understand. First, there were rumours about His resurrection, but then it was confirmed by people who became His disciples.

Why do you think that this testimony from these people is so important?

Because they were alive when Jesus died on the cross. They saw Him dead and buried and several days later they saw Him alive.

Why is the resurrection such an important part of Christianity?

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important part of Christianity. This is because He conquered death and sin. His resurrection to the glory of God means that we can also have eternal life in heaven. Jesus was nailed to a wooden cross and nailed at His hands and feet to be raised on it for everyone to see Him on it. The reason why He died is that God’s justice demanded that He take death for each one of us who have committed sins.
