They both have been added as a part of a new team of scientists who are transferring to the Enterprise to work alongside Seven of Nine (the Borg Collective’s former emissary) according to Entertainment Weekly.

Will any of the old characters from TNG make a return in season 2?
This is a highly probable scenario as there are many characters who played major roles in Picard’s life on TNG who could make a comeback in Season 2. Beverly Crusher, Geordi La Forge, Deanna Troi, Data, B4 and many others could easily be introduced to Picard’s life once again to throw him a curveball.
Will Picard and the crew be going to the new Star Trek series?

What new challenges will Picard face in the second season?
There are many challenges that Picard will be facing in Season 2 and one of them will be to step up and become the captain that everyone expects him to be. He is no longer a student, he has been given a command of his own and he has to step up in Season 2 if he wants to make a successful career out of it.
Will Picard and Tasha Troi end up together romantically in Season 2?
There is a strong possibility that this could happen considering that they clearly have a lot of chemistry together and they are both beautiful people on their own. There are two new characters mentioned in the trailer who are Dr Kalonia Ashford and Lt. Commander Samno whom Picard would be attracted to romantically as well. This could easily throw a curveball at his relationship with Troi, something which we have seen him struggle with within the previous season.
