In “Star Trek: Prodigy,” Aaron Waltke Talks Timelines And Much More, the young author takes on one of the most beloved franchises in history. The book is set in a future where the United Federation of Planets has been replaced by a global government known as the Terran Empire.

In this dark future, Captain James T. Kirk and his crew must battle against tyranny to restore freedom to the galaxy. “Star Trek: Prodigy” is an exciting new addition to the “Star Trek” canon, and we had a chance to speak with Aaron Waltke about it!

Do you know about the release date of Star Trek: Prodigy:

The E10 will be released on 3 Feb 2022. Also, the series has a 6-chapter prologue and 3 epilogues. I grew up on Star Wars and Star Trek but didn’t get into science fiction until later in life. I was a reading nerd growing up but I didn’t have a lot of friends that enjoyed the same things as me so I always had to go it alone.

I’ve read a lot of books, what made you want to write one?: When I was younger, my major goal in life was to be an author. Growing up, I loved writing short stories and jotting down ideas for novels but never seemed to get around to doing anything about it.

Here is the plot of Star Trek: Prodigy discussed:

The novel is set in the 25th century, where the United Federation of Planets has been replaced by a global government known as the Terran Empire, who seek to stamp out individual freedoms and subjugate all races under their rule.  The crew of the USS Enterprise-A Captain James T. Kirk, Spock, Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, Hikaru Sulu, Pavel Chekov, Nyota Uhura, and Montgomery “Scotty” Scott — are joined by a young officer named Gabriel Logan on a desperate mission to find his missing father before it’s too late.

What can we learn about the future from the Star Trek series and movies?

We can learn about the future from Star Trek by taking all of those technological advances and applying them to real life with some tweaks. For example, if we can create an interphasic communications device, then we could have real-life time travel communicators.

If we have replicators and transporters, then we could have a replicator that creates matter. The medical technology in Star Trek seems light years ahead of what is available now and that is exciting because I am hoping that the medical tech of the future will be able to cure diseases and ailments that are a death sentence now.

What inspired you to write a novel based on the “Star Trek” franchise?

The biggest obstacle was simply getting over my fear. I was petrified of doing something novel, writing a novel was the last thing that I wanted to do . When I heard CBS did a Star Trek series, it was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up. It wasn’t an easy transition from having loved the original series and being scared to try anything new but it ended up being my best decision ever.

Is there a way to apply the technology seen in Star Trek to our lives today?

I think Star Trek is a good example of how technology can improve our lives and the industry that we have today should be able to create even more futuristic technology. “Star Trek: Prodigy” was originally going to be titled “The Thin Line”. I thought that title was a bit long and I wanted to change it up a bit and make it stand out as something new. At the time, I didn’t know what other name they would come up with so I went with what was easiest to me at the time.

What kind of society would we have if we followed the ideals shown in Star Trek?

Star Trek gives a positive vision of the future where everyone coexists peacefully. Everyone is treated equally and nobody has to sacrifice their freedom to be part of an advanced society. We could have a society like that but I think we would have to make some serious changes, not only in our governments but in our hearts. We are so far from being able to follow the ideals shown in Star Trek, but it would be nice if we could get there one day without drifting too far from who we are as a people.

If you could hop on a Starship Enterprise, where would you go?

If I could hop on a Starship Enterprise, I would like to have a beer with James T. Kirk. He is a fascinating character and I feel he has a lot to teach us about his ideas and way of life. In the unlikely event that we did see him, I would want to hear his stories about his exciting adventures in space. Regrettably, he has been dead for decades now so it’s unlikely that we will ever be able to meet him in person.
