What inspired you to write the series The Adam Project?
This series is inspired by the viral video “Taking Back Adam” that was posted on YouTube in 2015. It went viral in 2017 and to this day has had over 2,000,000 views as of January 2019. The video took a look at the current mania surrounding a gene called “Adam” and how people were trying to use it to their advantage and solve all their problems.Â
The premise was that there is a gene called “Adam” that makes you powerful but slowly kills you if not used properly. So many people were trying to find the mythical DNA of Adam, but it turns out he does not exist.
What is your favourite book in the series and why?
My favourite book in the series is the first book because it sets up everything. I had to do a lot of world-building in the first book and I was very proud of how I laid it out. This is definitely my best series because I have been working on it for over 12 years and have gone through so many versions. One of those versions itself was a TV series called “The Adam Project” that was produced by FX and starred Adrien Brody and Amanda Peet but has long since been cancelled after its initial season run.

Are there any characters that are based on people you know in real life?
The character of Adam is based on a relative of mine. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, but it is really hard to write about a post-apocalyptic world without some sort of reference to our current society. I used my own family for inspiration for this one. I think that the ratings are good. People are liking what they see and they are paying attention! However, I do wish that the majority of my viewers were older than 10 years old because it’s not exactly appropriate content for young children
How do you come up with the ideas for your books?
Most of my ideas come from things I experience or events that happen in my life. A lot of times I will have a bad day and think of a book idea to get me through it. I’m not sure if it matters, but I do try to find a story that can be enjoyed by everybody. If something is too violent or confusing for them I cut it out. I really want to write something that can be enjoyed by everyone!
What is your favorite scene in this and why?
My favourite scene is probably the last one in the book because it sets up the next iteration of Adam and gives you a glimpse into what might be his new character. I know that the book is supposed to be about Adam, but I wanted to give the reader some clues as to what he would become.
