The Conjuring 4 hasn’t been approved yet, but considering how popular the film and wider universe are, it is likely to happen. The Conjuring 3 was released and was the lowest-grossing film in the film. Aside from some flimsy effects, it also had a lot of plot holes, one being that for a family of five with three kids, there is an absurdly small number of beds. James Wan announced that The Conjuring 4 is in development. While the exact release date has yet to be confirmed, it will most likely follow the same pattern as their previous films and come out sometime in 2023.
This film will be released on 8 September 2023. For The Conjuring 4 to be released, it’s high the previous films are likely to be granted a theatrical run. As of now, there have been no announcements about whether or not this is going to occur. There has also been no official announcement made because once the fourth film is green-lighted (which will likely happen sometime in 2023), development into the fifth film and beyond will begin.
The Conjuring film follows the adventure of Ed & Lorraine Warren, a couple of life paranormal experts and demonologists. The first three films follow the Warrens as they try to put a stop to a supernatural entity that is terrorizing a family. It seems that the Warrens are called in for help by the Vatican on this case, but since it’s currently in development, there is not much information available about the film.
The film is inspired by the real-life events of Ed & Lorraine Warren, the couple who are the main subjects of the film. According to Wan, the original plan for this film was for one family to be haunted by a demon. “I wrote it as a classic haunted house story because I wanted to pull from [the] idea that old haunted house movies had,” he said. “The Conjuring 1 and The Conjuring 2 were more just stories about ghosts and demons”.
Their favorite characters for Wan are the Warrens who have to deal with these kinds of things. “They keep coming back because they’re doing their job and it’s not just a horror movie for them. It’s something bigger,” Wan said.
The film will be a classic haunted house story but with a supernatural twist. “I want it to be scary, but I want it to feel like a good old-fashioned haunted house story,” Wan said. “We’re using our tools of physical and visual effects and we’re doing everything we can do in the studio to make these ghosts real”.
The themes of the film will be explored in the following ways:
“If there’s one thing that I’ve learned since I’ve been making horror movies, it’s that you have to be very honest with your audience,” Wan said. “In this movie, we get into the Warrens’ personal life and their fears, and their secrets. At this point in their lives, they aren’t ready to embrace what they’re facing. Not only do they not want to face it, but they don’t know how to face it”.
The film is about how Ed Warren battles a demon that targets his own family. The demon also uses its powers to terrorize others. The film is still in the early stages of development, but Wan says that a script has been written and that he’s currently looking for a director. He also said the casting is nearly complete.
Wilson plays the role of Ed Warren, one of the main protagonists in the film. His wife Lorraine Warren is also featured in his character, who’s an expert on demonic activity. Farmiga plays Lorraine Warren in this film, who is not just an expert on demons, but also a specialist on ghosts and paranormal activity as well.
