It came to our knowledge that AI Jean’s “Critic Season 3” won’t happen for a reason. Follow this blog post to know more about the updates of the new season. The Critic co-creator, Al Jean, has opened up about why the short-lived cult favorite comedy series can’t get a season 3 revival at Disney+. Initially debuting to mixed to positive reviews from critics, the series saw initially low ratings and was canceled after a higher-rated season 2.
As a result, the show has a cult following and a large fanbase in North America.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Al Jean revealed that there are so far no plans for a season three revival at Disney+. He did share some of his thoughts on why it’s unlikely to happen, but also left room open for potential future possibilities. “I think when we originally pitched the show years ago [to ABC], they said: ‘Well, this will be perfect for streaming.’ But I don’t know if anybody could have predicted what was going to happen,” he shared with THR.
“It would be too expensive now.”
He continued by saying how popular TV series are often given short lifespans to make a show “weirder and more unique” so that a new audience may come to know it. Jean also touched on how the show would need a lot of resources to complete a third season, which Disney+ is not yet able to provide.

It’s possible that if a new streaming service were created for animation-only TV series – similar to what Netflix does with their animated shows – then Critic could potentially return at some point in the future.
AI Jean has now completed two seasons since its launch on October 13th, 2018! The latest episodes launched this month include ‘The Simpsons’ and a new episode of ‘South Park’.
As usual, AI Jean has a lot to say about a range of topics in the entertainment industry. The last time we heard from him was when he took on Disney’s recent announcement that they would no longer be producing long-form content for their streaming service – a decision that made many fans unhappy.
Jean is now looking at how other animation studios are being affected by this change and focusing more heavily on what it means for his own show – Critic Season Three: The Search For New Life! His latest tweet last week read “Critics will always find something to criticize.” And as it turns out, this sentiment rings true with Jean himself too.
Additionally, Jean’s discussion of the modern-day world of film criticism not befitting that of The Critic is pretty spot on. Though YouTube has helped keep hosted review programs alive, the growing population of voices in the field in comparison to when Ebert and Siskel were generally the go-to critics, would likely turn Sherman off from the profession entirely. While the cult series may not continue, audiences can at least look forward to the ongoing crossover shorts from The Simpsons this year on Disney+.
