David Gordon Green is directing a new sequel to The Exorcist for Universal, Blumhouse, and Morgan Creek that will pave way for a planned trilogy. The original 1973 film is widely regarded as one of the scariest movies of all time, telling the story of a young girl possessed by a demon named Pazuzu. The two companies co-produced the original film, and now they’ve teamed up to do it again for this new installment. Pazuzu is back in this Exorcist reboot with some key differences. Production was unexpectedly delayed due to Hurricane Harvey when it destroyed the production offices and set in New Orleans. But now everything is back on track since they found a new headquarters in Louisiana and have enough insurance money to put up so construction may soon be underway again.

The favorite character of David Gordon Green is Ellen Burstyn who played the role of Chris MacNeil in the original. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he broke down why his co-star was so important to him. “There are a few people that I’ve worked with over the years that I’ve always been interested in working with again, but there’s one person who I would love to work with again and that’s Ellen Burstyn,” Green explained. “When this came up, it was kind of like a chance to work with her again, so I just jumped at it.”
