The Fabelmans is a coming-of-age drama movie from 2022 that Steven Spielberg, Tony Kushner, and Spielberg wrote, directed, and produced. A young aspiring filmmaker named Sammy Fabelman examines how the power of movies might help him understand the truth about his dysfunctional family and others around him in this semi-autobiographical drama, which is partially based on Spielberg’s adolescence and formative years as a director. 

The movie begins when Fabelman (whose name is a variation of Steven Spielberg) comes up with an idea for a movie called “Mystery on Snowy Mountain Drive.” Fabelman’s script focuses on a young man named Arnold who is dying of leukemia because he has been rejected by his classmates.Telling the story through the perspective of his dying friend’s dog, Arnold becomes involved with the film crew and learns about standards of filmmaking by watching them make movies. The movie culminates with an unexpected climax: just as Arnold sees that he will die, Fabelman runs out to meet him, offering him hope and inspiration.
