The Power of the Dog is one of many new films that will be released on Netflix in 2021. It was written and directed by Jane Campion, who recently co-produced The Tale with Jennifer Fox. In addition to Cumberbatch as the lead, Kirsten Dunst stars as his wife’s sister; Jesse Plemons plays the ranch owner; Thomasin McKenzie portrays Savage’s niece Rosalie; Kodi Smit-McPhee takes on the role of her nephew James (Savage) and Frances Conroy appears as a loving grandmother.
This film marks a return for director Jane Campion to features after creating six acclaimed episodes for Top Of The Lake: China Girl last year. Fans are eagerly awaiting this newest installment from the Oscar-winning director of The Piano.
The “Power Of the Dog” also marks a return for Benedict Cumberbatch, who starred in Campion’s 2013 movie Bright Star and 2011 miniseries Top Of The Lake. It will be his first major role since playing Doctor Strange as well as directing an episode of Patrick Melrose on Sky Atlantic this year he’ll next appear opposite Meryl Streep in Into The Woods at Christmas. As such, it is expected that both Jane Campion and Benedict Cumberbatch will now become household names to many more people around the world.”
It is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in September 2021. It will also screen at the 2021 New York Film Festival on October 1, 2021.
