Cassidy Freeman is one of the stars of The Righteous Gemstones, a new HBO series about a dysfunctional family of televangelists. This week, news broke that Cassidy is pregnant but she’s been keeping it a secret for months! In this exclusive interview, Cassidy opens up about her pregnancy and how she plans to keep it under wraps until the show airs.
‘I’m not even sure if I should be telling you this,’ says Cassidy. ‘This is a very delicate time, obviously. I don’t want to jinx anything so let’s just leave it at that.’ Cassidy plays the daughter of one of the lead characters, played by Danny McBride. She says that she had an idea this was coming up in the second season, but didn’t know how it would play out until she read it in the script. ‘It’s so funny to hear all these things come out of my mouth that I never thought I would say!’ laughs Cassidy.

Because she’s the only girl on the show and she’s the only one who has to deal with all these issues, because of her father and everything. It’s really hard for her. But I feel like I have to be myself, be courageous, and try to live my life out in a way that I feel God wants me to.

The plot of Righteous Gemstones is about the world of televangelists and the expansive empire built on faith and family. The Righteous Gemstones follows the life of Jesse Gemstone, a third-generation TV preacher who possesses a controversial message.
He has built a religious media empire and family legacy upon his ability to persuade viewers to part with their money in exchange for promises of a better life.
Jesse, his wife Edie, three sons Adam, Zachary and Johan, daughter Jessica and Granddaughter Josie have been groomed by Jesse’s father to follow in his footsteps as preachers on television or within their Houston ministry.

What are your thoughts on The Righteous Gemstones series so far?
The thoughts of The Righteous Gemstones are very awesome. This is one of the series that I really love and I like how they are portraying the whole family, making them like a big family, and then another thing that I really like about this show is that it’s about a bunch of Christians and God.
What do you think will happen in the next episode/season of the show?
I hope they will bring more characters together and let us know what’s going on and what it means, like let’s see how they get all the fans together to turn them into a religion! The series has an awesome crew and cast. They are very good to me and supportive of me, that’s why I feel like this is one of the best series I have worked on so far.
Well in my pre-production classes they teach you that every time you say something in front of a camera or with no one around, put it into your head that someone is recording it or looking at it at home.
Do you have any theories about what might happen in the finale/series finale?
I don’t know, I can’t say. Well I think that in the last episode of this season we might find out what happened to Josie, and I hope at the end of the series there’s a lot more that happens between Jesse, his wife Edie, their three kids and Daughter Josie.

How do you prepare for taking on a role like this, how do you get into character?
You kind of have to know who your character is and what their motivation is going to be. So I did my research on them (of the family). I studied up on the things that they say and how it’s translated in the shows. Because all these characters are just different ways of saying the same thing and it’s just about knowing what your character is saying inside, because like with that there’s a lot of things that go through your head.
