It’s been a long time coming, but the rush hour sequel that never happened has finally got an update. Rush Hour 4 is one of those sequels that’s been talked about for so long that it can be hard to remember what the actual deal with it is. Back in October 2017, Jackie Chan revealed that he had agreed on a script, and all they were waiting for was Chris Tucker to sign off on the screenplay.

That happened in February 2018 as Tucker confirmed that he was also on board. The plan was to film in 2018 on “the rush of all rushes,” but it won’t be a surprise to realize that never happened. We had to wait until January 2019 before we got another update on the Rush Hour 4 release date and other details.

We have promised a Rush Hour sequel in 2018, but it didn’t happen. We had to wait till January 2019 before we got another update on the Rush Hour’s release date and all the other details you need to know about this fourth installment of the comedy franchise. Jackie Chan revealed that he agreed with a script back in October 2017, so it’s clear that Chris Tucker was also on board.

Chan’s management company released a statement shortly after this Instagram post to say that, actually, the star hadn’t agreed to star in Rush Hour 4, so it seemed like we were back at square one.

Later in 2019, Tucker insisted that the pair were still talking about the fourth movie, as well as a “lot of different projects”, adding: “Hopefully we’ll get something going real soon.” So here’s where we stand with Rush Hour 4 and everything you need to know about it.

Release Date of “Rush Hour 4”

Until the movie gets underway, there’s no way of knowing the exact release date for the fourth movie, but based on the previous movies, it looks like we’ll be getting a late-summer release. Rush Hour came out on September 18, 1998, with the sequel following on August 3, 2001, and the threequel on August 10, 2007.

It’s unlikely that the fourth movie will go into production this year, so you’re looking at 2021 at the earliest for filming to start. That would indicate a summer 2022 release at the very earliest.
