The Sandman series is coming to Netflix and the streamer has announced that there will be a total of nine episodes. The series will be based on the books by Neil Gaiman and not the TV series that aired in the ‘90s. It was announced at New York Comic Con that a new Sandman series was coming to Netflix and it has since been revealed that there will be a total of nine episodes, as opposed to either an adaptation or extension of the original television show. The original televised show aired in the ’90s and is not connected with this project.

The project will be based on novels by Neil Gaiman and written by famed comic book writer, J.H Williams III (also known as “the artist who is best known for his work on Batwoman). The series will be produced by Gaumont and it’s still not clear at this point if the series will be a continuation of the life and times of the Dream King or if it will be an origin story.

Do you know about the release date of the Sandman series:

This series will be released on 5 August 2022. It will be available for streaming in the UK, Denmark, and Germany. Gotham’s Season 5 is a good place to catch up on the prequel series to Constantine starring Matt Ryan and Harold Perrineau.  It tells the origin story of Dr. Neil Godwin aka The Devil Doctor as he becomes The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen during World War II and also connects to Gotham’s past. It is written by Daniel Cerone (Dexter, Prison Break) who has written two episodes this season so far with an additional episode promised next week before the midseason finale.

Here is the plot of the Sandman series discussed:

The plot of the series focuses on Dream (aka John Constantine), a former British writer turned demon hunter in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. The twelve-episode event series will begin with Dream using his dark powers to save a young boy from the clutches of two supernatural criminals. But everything changes when Detective Harry D’Amour and the NYPD discover that he is a powerful immortal known as “The Sandman”. If you have not seen Constantine then HBO gives you 30 days to catch up on their streaming service before it becomes available in your area.

What can we expect from the Sandman series?

We can expect Adventures of Dream in the Underworld. A story about the origin of Dream and his quest in becoming human again. His struggle to save the world from a dark and dangerous supernatural threat. Dream’s joining forces with Detective Harry D’Amour and his squad.

Who are the director’s favorite characters and why?

The favorite character of J.H Williams III is The Corinthian and he explains why:

Corinthian is one of the more interesting characters to work with because he’s not the villain of the piece, but he’s beyond good and evil. He’s a warrior in this battle against evil but is part of a group that has some pretty heinous tactics. The main difference between him and everybody else is that he embraces them. That’s an interesting character to explore and something I think we’re going to see as the series goes on — to what extent his tactics are acceptable or not, and where he draws the line.

What is the storyline of the Sandman series?

The storyline of the Sandman series begins with Dream saving a young boy from two supernatural criminals. This makes Harry D’Amour and the NYPD aware that Dream is secretly a superhuman immortal who is known as “The Sandman”. In response, Harry D’Amour and his girlfriend Kirsten decide to pursue his Dream to stop him forever.

How will the Sandman series remind you?

This series reminds me of Hannibal, a serial killer drama. It’s more like an action drama than other TV series based on comic books like Daredevil. In Daredevil season 1, Matt Murdock is an attorney by day and at night he becomes a masked vigilante to fight against the crime in Hell’s Kitchen.
