The Wilds is an upcoming Australian drama television series that will premiere on ABC in 2022. The series is produced by Matchbox Pictures and stars Rachel Griffiths and Sophia Ali. The show tells the story of a city lawyer, played by Griffiths, who moves to a rural town to be closer to her children and becomes their local school principal. It was announced that ABC had given the production a series order for a first season consisting of thirteen episodes to air in May 2022. The series was created by Matthew Cormack and Matt Cameron who are also executive producers alongside producer Kate Dennis.Â
Alongside the series order announcement, it was confirmed that Sophia Ali, Rachel Griffiths, William McInnes, and Scott Brennan would star in the series with filming taking place in Marrickville and Fairlight Beach located near Swansea Heads, New South Wales.

What inspired the director to write The Wilds Series?
The series is inspired by the director’s own experience and the need to tell stories that connect with people. The Wilds were extremely personal and connected with a lot of people like herself, her mother and her friends. The director says; “We grew up in a country that told us to get out, and stay out of the bush. But as an adult, I went back and saw that it’s really not like that. It was a real revelation.”
