The Witcher creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich discussed the possibility of splitting the upcoming installment into multiple installments as VFX challenges continue to cause delays in Hollywood. The Witcher Season 3 release date is yet to be revealed but it is speculated, based on Hissrich’s comments, that the series would be divided into two seasons. The Witcher Season 3 cast has not been confirmed. The show will feature some of the same cast as the previous two installments and some new faces. One such new face is Fiona Shaw who will portray a sorceress called Yennefer of Vengerberg.
This series will be released sometime in Summer of 2023. Although it’s not yet an official third season of The Witcher, splitting the Netflix fantasy series in two would mark a recent trend with its titles. Most recently, Netflix released its second season of The Umbrella Academy and season 2 of its Marvel series, Iron Fist.
Ahead of a third season being announced, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich told IGN that she wanted to tell the story in two seasons rather than have “a gigantic collision” between the two sagas. The main bulk of the story would take place in Northern Kingdoms and then there would be a “bolt” for those who missed it. This is a similar approach that Netflix took with Iron Fist and Luke Cage, both splitting their initial seasons into two parts.
The Witcher tells the story of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a monster hunter who is caught up in complex political disputes while traveling through a unique fantasy world. Joining him is a woman named Yennefer (Fiona Shaw) and they must try to outsmart other villains.
As for what we can expect from the new season, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has promised that it will be worth the wait. “It’s ambitious, this is an ambitious thing we’re doing,” she said. “This shows is everything we can give it.” Unfortunately, it means everything fans have hoped for won’t be coming to be accomplished. She said she was initially aiming to do a spinoff following Ciri’s story but decided against it after realizing that Geralt is her favorite character and also the most interesting.
The series is inspired by Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich wrote the script after growing a huge fan of the series – it was her favorite book growing up. When she was studying, she wanted to read it but had to wait until college. Once she made it, she was hooked on the series and said that it is “amazing” and “brilliant”.
The favorite character is a character that has not been revealed yet, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said it was hard to narrow down her favorite. She mentioned that she enjoyed all the characters, but eventually settled on Yennefer and Jaskier.
She saw similarities in the series with Game of Thrones. For example, both have a princess who makes it to the throne but has to deal with lots of obstacles that they must overcome together. A few years back regarding this season, she admitted saying “I’d love to see Geralt become king of The North.
The show will be different from previous seasons because the other two installments were released more than a year apart. The third installment was originally supposed to be released in 2023 because of problems with the casting. It’s also been revealed that the new season will have more dramatic elements in it as well as having a focus on storytelling and characters rather than action. This is compared to Tio’s arc in season 2 which saw him kill many people.
