Vicki Lawrence plays the mother of Phil, a character played by the late Leslie Jordan in the third season of “Call Me Kat”. A remake of the British television program Miranda, “Call Me Kat”, which debuted on Fox in 2021, stars Mayim Bialik as Kat, a single woman in her late 30s who owns a cat café. Before his passing in a vehicle accident this October, Jordan was a member of the main cast and portrayed the café’s chief baker.
A selection of photographs from the upcoming “Call Me Kat” season 3 midseason premiere, which airs on January 5, 2023, was released this week by TV Insider. Icon Lawrence from “The Carol Burnett Show” was identified in the pictures as Phil’s mother. Although the episode’s plot hasn’t been made public yet, it appears that her character has joined the café’s staff, based on how her co-stars are treating her, she may not be doing a very good job.

The main character Kat is a 39-year-old single woman “who strives daily against society and her mother to illustrate that you cannot have everything you desire – and yet be happy.”She quits her job as a lecturer at the University of Louisville and opens a cat café in Louisville with the money her parents set aside for her wedding.

What is new in the series?
According to the upcoming episode’s title, “Call Me Philliam,” the authors want to use the episode to examine Phil’s legacy in addition to his mother’s appearance. Despite Phil having to leave “Call Me Kat”, his character will live on and be content as a remembrance of the adored performer. His mother’s seemingly abrupt appearance at the diner will take some explaining, but that conversation will be the best way to give Phil and by proxy Jordan the happy ending he deserves.

Critics review
Critics have mostly given the first season unfavorable reviews. Based on 15 reviews with an average score of 5.1/10 on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 27% approval rating. “More gimmick than a sitcom, “Call Me Kat” buries a winsome Mayim Bialik in a sandbox of insipid jokes and poor characterizations,” the website’s critical consensus states. On Metacritic, season one received “mixed or mediocre reviews,” with a weighted average score of 41 out of 100 based on 10 reviews.
Broadcasting of series
Fox broadcast the “Call Me Kat” premiere on January 3, 2021. On January 7, 2021, the show switched to Thursdays, taking Last Man Standing’s place in that night’s schedule. In Canada, CTV carries it as well. The start of the second season was on January 9, 2022. The start of the third season was on September 29, 2022.

The show was nominated for Outstanding Cinematography For A Multi-Camera Series at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards.
In the Conclusion
How long Lawrence will remain in the role and the future of the series is both open issues, but most of them will likely have their answers by January 5. Hopefully, the series creators will be up to the task of handling such a horrific tragedy while keeping a lighthearted sitcom tone. However, it seems likely that the episode would be as uplifting as it is tender given the love the “Call Me Kat” cast has shown for their late co-star Jordan.
